Minister Norma Foley T.D. noted the publication today of the Fifth Opinion of the Council of Europe’s Advisory Committee on Ireland’s implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. |
The Minister said:
“The Advisory Committee has raised important issues in relation to the situation of Travellers and Roma in Ireland. Ireland takes its responsibilities to the Council of Europe very seriously and is giving careful consideration to the Fifth Opinion of the Advisory Committee.” The Minister added: “Much has been done in recent years to address issues faced by Travellers and Roma. The work to support Travellers and Roma will continue in the years ahead. In particular, the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy II 2024 – 2028) represents a whole of Government approach to ensuring and facilitating the full inclusion and active participation of the Traveller and Roma communities in Ireland’s social, economic, cultural, and political life. Its purpose is to realise a safe, fair, and inclusive Ireland where Travellers and Roma are supported to lead inclusive, healthy, and fulfilling lives.” |
