A new perpetual trophy has been established in memory of Michèle de Foubert, a beloved member of the Fleischmann Choir of the MTU Cork School of Music, who passed away on at the beginning of last Summer. The Michèle de Foubert Perpetual Trophy will be awarded annually to the highest placed MTU Cork School of Music voice student.
The trophy was presented to Professor Alistair Payne, Dean of the Faculty of Creative & Performing Arts & Media, MTU accompanied by Maria Judge, Head of Department (Musicianship and Academic Studies), MTU Cork School of Music by Michèle’s husband David Shine and Clíona O’Sullivan, Manager, Fleischmann Choir on behalf of the choir and friends who fundraised for the trophy. The presentation took place in the presence of Michèle’s family and friends and the members of the Fleischmann Choir.
Designed by Ali Cullinane, a member of the Fleischmann Choir and a dear friend of Michèle, the unique trophy was produced by Chris Carroll, Silversmith. Ali’s design symbolises Michèle’s love of, and talent for, music, particularly as a piano teacher. Michèle’s passing has brought a pause to the musical depth and expression that she gifted to those who heard her beautiful soprano voice, hence the pause symbol on the centre of the trophy, in her signature purple colour.
