The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Gillian Coughlan has visited a number of Ukrainian refugees who now call Bandon their home. The Mayor spoke to the families who shared their experiences with her. In a show of solidarity, the Mayor presided over a flag-raising ceremony at the local Cork County Council Office at which the Ukrainian flag was flown. On behalf of the citizens of Bandon, Mayor Coughlan expressed her heartfelt support to the Ukrainian nationals and assured them that they will experience peace and warmth from the people of Bandon. The Mayor thanked all the local agencies – both statutory and voluntary – for the suite of support services that have been put in place and that are working so effectively. The Mayor also commented that this cross-community collaboration is what makes us what we are.
