Butler Chocolates have come up with this exciting fundraising event.
The Hope Foundation is an organisation that’s incredibly close to the heart of Ireland’s favourite family-owned luxury chocolatiers – Butlers Chocolates. Chairman of Butlers, Mairead Sorensen has worked closely with the charity for the last 18 years as a board member, donor and fundraiser. Visiting Kolkata at least once per year to volunteer, Mairead sought a new project for Butlers to get behind and inspired by both Maureen Forrest, director of the Hope Foundation, and Top Irish Fitness Trainer, Paul Byrne with whom Mairead trains with. That project is the Cycle for Hope, in aid of children with disabilities. In particular, the Cycle for Hope will raise funds for a new resource and education centre for children with special needs in Kolkata.
Taking place on Saturday, September 7, this is the first-ever Cycle for Hope and should enough money be raised, the goal is to open more resource centres throughout Kolkata. Commenting on the inspiring project, Mairead Sorensen says:
“I am deeply passionate about the work and the needs in Kolkata and am excited and challenged by the opportunity to set up something new there. It is also exciting to be setting up this cycle and Butlers are very pleased to promote it and be involved.”
At 9.00am on September 7, over 200 cyclists are set to get on their bikes as they make their way along the coastal route from the Butlers Chocolates Visitor Centre, Clonshaugh to Louth and back. Cyclists can choose from two route options, the traditional 145km route or 85km route. The cycle will finish at Butlers Chocolates, Clonshaugh. The minimum donation to register for the cycle is €250.
Paul Byrne is joined by model and TV presenter Glenda Gilson and TV and Radio Presenter Matt Cooper. Glenda is particularly excited to get involved:
“I’m delighted to be involved – after having a baby I decided to head back to the gym and now I’m putting my fitness to work by getting involved with Cycle For Hope. The children that we are reaching out to in Kolkata live in horrendous conditions and have the added hardship of a disability. So I’m happy to raise some much needed funds to bring a bit of comfort and help to their lives.”
