The CMRF Ambassador praised the patients and staff of the hospital for their hard work and determination.
One in 100 children in Ireland are born with a structural heart defect, and 1 in 19 people in Ireland carry the Cystic Fibrosis gene. With so many children battling with childhood illness day in day out, Ryan Tubridy made a trip to the hospital to help bring joy to some of their little patients.
CMRF Crumlin provides funding for CHI at Crumlin (formerly Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin) and the NCRC (National Children’s Research Centre) which invests in vital research into childhood illnesses like cancer, cardiac diseases, cystic fibrosis, diabetes and eczema to name a few. 150,000 children walk through the doors of CHI at Crumlin every year.
“It’s always humbling to walk through the corridors of Crumlin Hospital, meeting children and their families who have a lot going on in their world but always handling the situation with dignity and determination”, said CMRF Ambassador, Ryan Tubridy. “The same can be said for the staff who, at every level, endeavour to make the world a kinder place for boys and girls from all over Ireland. The CMRF Foundation could always do with a little help along the way and I hope people can do that by donating whatever they can.”
“It was so wonderful to have Ryan visit the sick children at CHI at Crumlin,” Fiona O’Malley, Head of Communications at CMRF said. “He is always so generous with his time and it is wonderful to see all the children’s faces light up when they see him. Being in hospital is tough for children at any time of year, but during the summer it can be especially unfair. We are hugely grateful to Ryan for giving his time, and to our many supporters who make donations and raise funds so that sick children can have smiles all year round”.
“There was great excitement in the cancer ward when Ryan Tubridy made a visit,” said Julie Hughes, Assistant Director of Nursing at CHI at Crumlin. “Visits from CMRF ambassadors puts a smile on all our faces and helps to provide an enjoyable experience for patients and families at what can be a very difficult time.”
